MOBILE – Stillman College fell to 0-3 in Southern States Athletic Conference West Division play Tuesday with a 71-66 loss at the University of Mobile.
Mobile balanced its first-half scoring with 17 points in each of the first two quarters to carry a 34-27 lead into halftime. Led by Lauren Bodino’s 10 points and seven rebounds, the Rams shot 46.9% in the first half and out-rebounded the Tigers, 20 to 15.
Stillman was held to 32.3% shooting (10-of-31) in the opening 20 minutes, as Zaria Jenkins and D’Asia Marsh led the Tigers’ offense with six points apiece.
The Tigers’ only lead of the game came in the first 3:26 of action, leading by as many as three points, 6-3, following a Zikira Williams basket. Mobile answered with a six-point run to take the lead. Jenkins pulled Stillman within a point, 19-18, at the 7:48 mark in the second quarter, but once again the Rams scored six-straight to create some distance.
Mobile held pace in the second half, led by a 24-point third quarter. Stillman rallied in the fourth quarter, out-scoring the Rams, 23-13, but never regained the lead.
Brittney Washington led Stillman with 15 points on five 3-pointers, including 12 points in the second half. Marsh added 13 points and six rebounds. Jenkins finished with eight points, Daja Polk and Imana Wimbish-Gay scored seven and Williams and Devyn Lockhart scored six.
Claire Worth led Mobile with 17 points. Bodino finished with a double-double 15 points and 10 rebounds, and was joined by Artasia McDowell’s 15 points and eight boards. Erica Jones added 11 points.
Stillman (0-4, 0-3 SSAC West) will travel to Blue Mountain College for a two-game set Friday and Saturday, Jan. 15-16. No fans will be admitted at Blue Mountain College.
