Alabama’s DeVonta Smith was named the Player of the Year in college football by the Associated Press. It marks the first time a wide receiver has received that honor.

He picked up 114 points (26 first-place votes) in the tally, a good distance ahead of Mac Jones, his teammate with the Crimson Tide, who has been making sure passes came his direction this season. Jones received 67 points (nine first-place votes).

The dynamic pair of Smith and Jones finished No. 1 and No. 2 in the voting, followed by Clemson quarterback Trevor Lawrence and Florida quarterback Kyle Trask.
