<div><strong>FORT WORTH, Texas</strong> — Sophomore Bryce Young of Alabama has been tabbed the 2021 season’s first Davey O’Brien Award National Quarterback of the Week winner, the Davey O&#8217;Brien Foundation has announced.</div>
<div></div>
<div>In his first career start for the Crimson Tide, Young collected 344 passing yards and four touchdowns in a 44-13 win over No. 14 Miami. Both marks were school records for a player making his first career start.</div>
<div></div>
<div>Overall, Young completed 27 of 38 attempts (71.1 percent) and owned a passer rating of 181.8. The product of Pasadena, Calif., averaged 9.1 yards per attempt and 12.7 yards per completion. His 94-yard touchdown strike was the second-longest in school history.</div>
<div></div>
<div>The other quarterbacks on the season’s inaugural Great 8 list were: Notre Dame’s Jack Coan, Matt Corral of Ole Miss, UTSA’s Frank Harris, Tanner Mordecai of SMU, Charlotte’s Chris Reynolds, Desmond Ridder of Cincinnati and Ohio State’s C.J. Stroud. All members of the Great 8 are officially added to the Midseason Watch List.</div>
<div></div>
<div>The Davey O’Brien Foundation was created in 1977, and the National Quarterback Award, the oldest and most prestigious college quarterback award, was first issued in 1981. Over its time, the Davey O’Brien Foundation has given away more than $1.2 million in scholarships and university grants to help high school and college athletes transform leadership on the field into leadership in life.</div>
<div></div>
<div>In 1938, O’Brien, who wore No. 8 as a star quarterback for TCU, became the first player ever to win the Heisman Trophy, Maxwell Award and Walter Camp Award in the same year. <div><strong>FORT WORTH </strong>– Alabama junior Mac Jones has been named the 2020 Davey O’Brien National Quarterback Award winner. He is the first Crimson Tide player ever to claim the nation’s oldest and most prestigious quarterback trophy.</div>
<div></div>
<div>On the year, Jones has completed 275 of 357 passes for 4,036 yards and 36 touchdowns against just four interceptions. His completion percentage (.770), passing efficiency rating (203.0) and total quarterback rating (95.8) are the highest in NCAA history.</div>
<div></div>
<div>In addition to topping the nation in completion percentage, passing efficiency and total quarterback rating, his passing yardage and passing touchdown totals rank second in the NCAA. He also is third nationally in points responsible for (222) and sixth in total offense per game (336.6).</div>
<div></div>
<div>In 12 games, Jones has thrown for more than 300 yards seven times, eclipsing the 400-yard plateau on four occasions. The native of Jacksonville, Fla., also threw four or more touchdown passes seven times.</div>
<div></div>
<div>The No. 1-ranked Crimson Tide own a 12-0 record and have reached the College Football Playoff Championship Game. In his past two contests, the SEC Championship Game against Florida and national semifinal versus Notre Dame, Jones combined to complete 58 of 73 pass attempts (79.4 percent) for 715 yards and nine touchdowns.</div>
<div></div>
<div>In 2020, the 6-3, 214-pound quarterback has directed one of the nation’s most prolific offenses. The Crimson Tide rank second in the FBS in scoring offense (48.2 points per game), fifth in passing offense (349.3) and sixth in total offense (535.0).</div>
<div></div>
<div>Including Jones, over the past 13 years, the Davey O’Brien Award winners’ teams have combined for an overall record of 164-14 (.921). He is the sixth straight winner to lead his team to the College Football Playoffs, joining Oregon’s Marcus Mariota (2014), Clemson’s Deshaun Watson (2015, 2016), Oklahoma’s Baker Mayfield (2017), Oklahoma’s Kyler Murray (2018) and LSU’s Joe Burrow (2019). Three winners in the past seven years ultimately claimed national championships (Florida State’s Jameis Winston in 2013, Watson in 2016 and Burrow in 2019).</div>
<div></div>
<div>Clemson junior Trevor Lawrence and Florida senior Kyle Trask were award finalists alongside Jones. Ballots were tabulated from the Davey O’Brien National Selection Committee, which includes select media members and all former winners, following the voting period’s conclusion on Jan. 2 at 10 a.m. (CT).</div>
<div></div>
<div>Bonus ballots were added based on social media fan votes recorded on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter. Jones won first place in the Facebook vote, while Trask claimed the most votes on Instagram and Twitter.</div>
<div></div>
<div>Jones was named the Davey O’Brien National Quarterback Award winner live on the Home Depot College Football Awards Show on ESPN. Due to ongoing issues with the COVID-19 pandemic that has forced the cancellation of the 44th Annual Davey O’Brien Awards Dinner, Jones will be honored virtually on Monday, Feb. 15.</div>

<div></div>

<div></div>
<div>Lawrence is 198-for-286 passing (.692) for 2,753 yards and 22 touchdowns, while also rushing for 211 yards and seven scores. He ranks seventh in FBS in total offense (329.3) and eighth in total QBR (85.6). The product of Cartersville, Ga., also is listed nationally in passing yards (10th), passing efficiency (11th, 172.7), touchdown passes (12th) and points responsible for (12th, 174).</div>
<div></div>
<div>In nine games, the 6-6, 220-pound junior passed for more than 300 yards five times with a pair of 400-yard games. Clemson (10-1) is 9-0 in contests started by Lawrence and is the second seed in the College Football Playoffs.</div>
<div></div>
<div>Trask, a senior from Manvel, Texas, has completed 285 of 409 passes (.697) for 4,125 yards and 43 touchdowns, leading the country in both yards and passing scores. In addition, he ranks first in points responsible for (278) and is second in total QBR (90.4).</div>

<div>In 11 games, the 6-5, 240-pound signal caller has nine 300-yard passing efforts, topping the 400-yard plateau five times, and had seven tilts with at least four touchdown passes. His 379.5 total yards of offense per game ranks third nationally. Trask has steered Florida to an 8-3 overall record and the No. 7 ranking in the College Football Playoff Rankings.</div>
<div></div>
<div>The Davey O’Brien National Quarterback Award, first issued in 1981, is the nation’s oldest and most prestigious quarterback award. The Foundation’s national selection committee is comprised of journalists, broadcasters, commentators and former winners.</div>
<div></div>
<div>The Davey O’Brien Fan Vote instituted a change to its format in 2020, as fans voted for their favorite quarterback’s post from the Davey O’Brien official accounts via three social media platforms—<a href="http://r20.rs6.net/tn.jsp?f=001ofJe0B3mFghd0vBw9sypTCfmG-U2xH7R_txuXT27ngB4XhFcO4-rJlUUTL7CCBKpfspUxX4NagE4I-cW0blPrGtwUes0BLzLleeaERhJy1gtKJ2fQubfHhzDlal_DhFwFlmQepPTjJF4Y1s9II0LA7yxxvY7BY3zZda46pZwLsA68D354VHTbw==&amp;c=02zC-_z3PBEXQERa-LmV1ZRZbRREJ41GnTx0vRPOfZhxLH1uYlF4Ng==&amp;ch=yQlixKCvYAUwZGifBdxr6kzNDF9o0RNjzMfvNoF1YRB8MBZ245_-xQ==" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Instagram</a>, <a href="http://r20.rs6.net/tn.jsp?f=001ofJe0B3mFghd0vBw9sypTCfmG-U2xH7R_txuXT27ngB4XhFcO4-rJgl8Ek4gB2KgC4-r3jdhjf_gw9mVQTbLKVAdxl2fJoWGcYLZuQn0RKKclQxkaMdU-peWvwmzV5Q2_watg4UNVCaw-zgzubsNojVqMURsmrij&amp;c=02zC-_z3PBEXQERa-LmV1ZRZbRREJ41GnTx0vRPOfZhxLH1uYlF4Ng==&amp;ch=yQlixKCvYAUwZGifBdxr6kzNDF9o0RNjzMfvNoF1YRB8MBZ245_-xQ==" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Twitter</a> and <a href="http://r20.rs6.net/tn.jsp?f=001ofJe0B3mFghd0vBw9sypTCfmG-U2xH7R_txuXT27ngB4XhFcO4-rJlUUTL7CCBKpc5VWpBCBts5GEseUjdUk6QrZTpudb_6OANUnFg24w5EuK9yyxN5SkYpe88Dvn52QLxdZvuWt7PQoxT7ywtciVjCSKcXrl725&amp;c=02zC-_z3PBEXQERa-LmV1ZRZbRREJ41GnTx0vRPOfZhxLH1uYlF4Ng==&amp;ch=yQlixKCvYAUwZGifBdxr6kzNDF9o0RNjzMfvNoF1YRB8MBZ245_-xQ==" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Facebook</a>.
