<div><strong>FORT WORTH, Texas</strong> — Sophomore Bryce Young of Alabama has been tabbed the 2021 season’s first Davey O’Brien Award National Quarterback of the Week winner, the Davey O&#8217;Brien Foundation has announced.</div>
<div></div>
<div>In his first career start for the Crimson Tide, Young collected 344 passing yards and four touchdowns in a 44-13 win over No. 14 Miami. Both marks were school records for a player making his first career start.</div>
<div></div>
<div>Overall, Young completed 27 of 38 attempts (71.1 percent) and owned a passer rating of 181.8. The product of Pasadena, Calif., averaged 9.1 yards per attempt and 12.7 yards per completion. His 94-yard touchdown strike was the second-longest in school history.</div>
<div></div>
<div>The other quarterbacks on the season’s inaugural Great 8 list were: Notre Dame’s Jack Coan, Matt Corral of Ole Miss, UTSA’s Frank Harris, Tanner Mordecai of SMU, Charlotte’s Chris Reynolds, Desmond Ridder of Cincinnati and Ohio State’s C.J. Stroud. All members of the Great 8 are officially added to the Midseason Watch List.</div>
<div></div>
<div>The Davey O’Brien Foundation was created in 1977, and the National Quarterback Award, the oldest and most prestigious college quarterback award, was first issued in 1981. Over its time, the Davey O’Brien Foundation has given away more than $1.2 million in scholarships and university grants to help high school and college athletes transform leadership on the field into leadership in life.</div>
<div></div>
<div>In 1938, O’Brien, who wore No. 8 as a star quarterback for TCU, became the first player ever to win the Heisman Trophy, Maxwell Award and Walter Camp Award in the same year. He was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 1955.
